The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is extending the effective date of certain forms of Permanent Resident Cards (PRC’s) for 12 months from its current expiration date. The holder of a PRC, Form I-551, or Green Card will receive a revised Form I-797, Notice of Action, receipt notice of Form I-90, and Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card which will allow employers to complete Form I-9 verification.
When verifying Form I-9, employers who are provided with this documentation must write “PRC Ext” in the Additional Information box, with the I-90 receipt number from Form I-797. You must also attach a copy of the PRC and Form I-797 to the employee’s Form I-9. Follow the same procedure for a current employee that provides you with this documentation; reverification of their Form I-9 is unnecessary and unlawful.
