On March 30, 2020, a U.S. District Court Judge ruled in ESI/Employee Solutions LP vs. City of Dallas that the city’s paid sick leave ordinance “runs afoul of both the federal and state constitution and is unenforceable.” This ruling, following prior similar rulings in Dallas, temporarily enjoins the ordinance from taking effect. The ordinance was scheduled to take effect April 1, 2020. Subsequently, the City of Dallas is prohibited from enforcing the ordinance against any business or entity. Similar paid sick leave ordinances in Austin and San Antonio have also been temporarily enjoined and rendered unenforceable.  The ruling took effect on March 30, 2020.
