Paid Family Leave Continues to Gain Traction

District of Columbia: Changes to PFML

District of Columbia employees should expect an increase of leave amounts under the Universal Paid Leave Act (UPLA) beginning on July 1, 2022.  According to the certification letter from Acting Chief Financial Officer Fitzroy Lee, there was sufficient funding to raise leave amounts to their maximum levels; 12 weeks for qualifying parental, medical and family leave, and 2 weeks for prenatal leave.

Employers can also look forward to a reduction to payroll taxes from the current 0.62% to 0.26% on July 1, 2022, with a re-evaluation in March 2023.

Please note that these changes are both based upon the district’s Department of Employment Services (DOES) having ample time for implementation.
