Washington State Law Restricting Noncompetition Agreements Is Effective 1/1/2020

The state of Washington passed a new law on April 17, 2019 that will significantly limit the enforceability of noncompetition agreements under state law. Governor Jay Inslee signed the act into law on May 8, 2019. There are big changes to the current Washington law governing non-competes. Businesses with independent contractors or employees in Washington state should evaluate all non-competition agreements that they may have and take steps to be in compliance with the new law by 1/1/2020.
